6 Ways To Use Essential Oils Beginners Guide
The number one question asked is "What are essential oils, How do I use it, which oil do I use, and where do I put it?" That totals 4 questions but shows how essential oils can be very overwhelming to a beginner! There are 2 main ways to use essential oils- topically (put on your skin) and aromatically (smelling the oils).
The Basics: What Are Essential Oils?
Essential Oils are liquids created by the distillation of flowers, roots, shrubs, trees, bushes, and seeds. These liquids are highly concentrated, aromatic and consists of chemical compounds. Depending on the Chemical compounds they offer a wide variety of therapeutic benefits.
How to use them:
Aromatic use
Aromatic is the most straightforward and easy way to use essential oils. It can be as simple as smelling your bottle of oil. You can also purchase an essential oil diffuser, wear an essential oil necklace or bracelet, or use a personal inhaler.
1. Diffuser
Diffusing oils is a great way to get your day started on the right note. Just add 6-10 drops of essential oils to your diffuser and presto it’s good to go. Try stimulating oils for work or study or uplifting oils if you need an energy boost. Relaxing and sedative oils such as lavender or cedarwood are great at bedtime.
2. Inhale
Simply inhale directly an open bottle rub a drop of oil between your palms and breath the aroma for a nice pick me up. Note that using undiluted oils can cause skin irritation.
3. Diffuser Jewelry
- Essential oil jewelry are necklaces, bracelets, or earrings that double as diffusers, meaning they absorb essential oils and gradually release them, dispersing the oil’s aroma and other noted benefits.
Topical Application
Essential oils need to be diluted in order to safely use. This helps the oil absorb better into the skin and cover a larger area. The carrier also reduces the amount of oil that evaporates before being absorbed as well as decreases the risk of skin irritation. More is not better when it comes to oils. They are highly volatile, and little goes a long way. You can dilute with any pure carrier oil, but most people choose to use a carrier oil what goes along with the issue they are treating. Many beginners start out using fractionated coconut oil. It is none greasy, has no smell and doesn’t stain your clothes. dilution ratios largely depend on the users health and age. 4. Massage
Bring some essential oils to your next massage or give yourself a massage at home. Make your own massage oil by adding 10-20 drops diluted to 1/2 cup of carrier oil.
5 . Baths
Add 2-5 drops of essential oil to a carrier oil or use with Epsom salts.
6 . Rollerballs:
My absolute favorite way to use essential oils rollerballs. Using a rollerball makes the process quick and easy because your oils are already pre-mixed and diluted. This means you don’t need to waste time measuring out your oils when you’re in need of a quick application. These are easy to make and take with you wherever you go.
