What ingredients should I purchase when getting started?

“See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

New to DIY and aren’t sure what ingredients you need to purchase? There are a lot of different ingredients you can purchase and trying to decide can be overwhelming. What you need will be heavily influenced by what you want to make. If you are intending on making on soap and body butter your list will look very different than if you want to make water-based serums and lotions.

I highly recommend making a list of the first three projects you want to make and look up the ingredients you are considering purchasing in the A Drop From Eden Encyclopedia or the my first projects blog post.

My Recommended Ingredient  Starter Shopping List

With this list you’ll be able to create body butters, lip balms, and simple lotions.

  • A lightweight, inexpensive liquid oil like sweet almond oil or grapeseed
  • Virgin coconut oil
  • Vitamine E, a natural preservative
  • A soft butter—shea butter or mango butter
  • A brittle oil/butter—cocoa butter is my favorite
  • Beeswax
  • A few essential oils or fragrances—your preference but my favorite of lavender and orange
  • Panthenol (Vitamin B5)
